College Excel was founded in 2003 by Jeannie Crowell in response to the growing number of students who were struggling in college and needed extra support both academically and personally. Her personal experience of trying to get through college with learning challenges provided the empathy and inspiration to create a program where students could flourish regardless of their challenges.
Drawing from her years of experience as a teacher, counselor, executive coach and wilderness guide, Jeannie and a group of pioneering students blazed the trail for the hundreds of students who have now come through College Excel’s doors.
Our Commitment to Excellence
College Excel has been in operation for 17 years, and we have acquired an extensive background working with young adults who are seeking a higher education. We built our program based on the idea that a successful higher education experience needed to take the whole student into consideration. We understand that students need comprehensive academic and personal support as they learn to transform challenges in and out of the classroom into valuable life lessons that enrich their experience and create positive change. To accomplish this our founder trained extensively in the neurobiology of behavioral change and personal transformation, which led her to develop our time-tested, Harvard research-backed coaching model that has helped hundreds of students determine and then follow their own paths to success.
College Excel has grown into what it is today by staying committed to applying the latest research, meeting our students where they are, and listening carefully to what they need. And we didn’t do it alone. We wouldn’t be where we are without the amazing support of our partner colleges, the community of Bend, many dedicated colleagues, and most importantly, our students and their parents who provide us with the daily inspiration to be brave, be bold, and carry on regardless of the obstacles we encounter.
